My Financial Services Journey began in 2001 at Windsor Life where I was part of a Pension Review Team. Since then I have worked as a Team Leader, worked in a compliance department and as a Financial Adviser for a major bank. I have had varied experience in financial services and now know what I enjoy the most is being able to help customers with all their Financial Planning needs which is why I am glad to be where I am today. I am a local guy from just down the road in Alveley and joined JCA in April 2015. As well as enjoying all sports I get involved with as much as I can with some of the local clubs and groups.
My financial services career began in 1989 at the age of 27 and to give myself a fighting chance of surviving in the early years of my new career I joined the Oxford Office of The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company or Manulife, either way most people had never heard of them, but a fantastic introduction to financial services and superb training. In 1992 I moved to the Isle of Wight and joined the Prudential office. In 1996 I became an Independent Financial Adviser and have pretty much worked on my own ever since. I moved to the hidden gem of this area of Shropshire earlier this year and took the opportunity to join JCA here in Bridgnorth. I admire the ethos and work ethics of the company and a desire to deliver simple long term financial solutions for our clients. I currently hold DipIP in investment and pensions advice, CeMAP mortgage qualification, CeLTM & CeRER qualifications for Equity Release (Lifetime Mortgages and Home Reversion Plans) and have also passed the CeLTC long term care exam.
My first job was working within a large building products company based in Telford. After moving to Shrewsbury I then worked for Shropshire County Council for 10 years as Administrator before moving to Bridgnorth where I worked for Bryan & Knott Insurance Brokers. I am now Office Manager and Director of John Cannaby Associates Ltd.
My hobbies include: Yoga, cycling, walking the dogs, eating out and going to the cinema
I attended Bridgnorth Endowed School, played golf for Bridgnorth Golf Club and football for Bridgnorth Spartans. I graduated with a First-Class Honours degree from the University of Birmingham. At University I became increasingly interested in investing and wealth management. This motivated me to pursue a career in the Financial services industry. Fortunately, an excellent local firm offered me the opportunity to begin my career as a financial adviser. I am now studying through the London Institute of Banking and Finance and I am working towards my Level 4 DipFA and CeMap Qualifications in Financial Planning and Mortgage Advice. I hope to be fully qualified by March 2022 and begin to provide good advice and long-term financial solutions to Bridgnorth and beyond.
I am a local man and am proud to have lived in Bridgnorth all my life.
After leaving school in Shrewsbury, a few days after my 15th birthday I was working underground at Highley Colliery.
I entered The Financial Services Industry initially for a short time at age 22. Recently, at age 77, I was still involved in the industry I came to love. Following a long period of cancer treatment which was successful, I took retirement in November 2020.
I still retain my non-advisory connection with the company and hope to introduce and liaise with many more new clients to the company I helped to launch 12 years ago.
